The Bauman Institute

School of Sociology & Social Policy, University of Leeds, UK

liquid

Due for its official launch in September 2010 in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds UK, the Bauman Institute aims to promote sociological research in those related areas that emerge from the writings of Zygmunt Bauman, principally on consumerism, freedom, social inclusion/exclusion, ethics, uncertainty and identity.

Groups

Welcome to the Bauman Institute!

This online community has been set up in advance of the official launch of the Bauman Institute in September 2010. The community is one of the Institute's key initiatives and is intended for scholars, students and others who are interested in studying the seminal sociological writings of Professor Zygmunt Bauman, in order to extend and/or to challenge his ideas in a variety of theoretical and policy-relevant areas. If you share an interest in engaging in these debates you are invited to apply to join. Anonymous applications will be declined.

The community is intended to be an informal forum for the sharing and discussion of ideas and work-in-progress within a supportive environment, as well as creating a space for possible collaborative work to develop. In addition, we hope to provide an information channel on the continuing development of the Bauman Institute at the University of Leeds, especially its emerging programme of research, events and activities as we work towards the official launch.
